A one day SMART (Simply Monitor Assess the Risk and Treat accordingly) worm egg count masterclass for SQPs and veterinary nurses, worth 50 AMTRA CPD points, is being held at the Moredun Institute, Edinburgh on June 8th.

Presentations by Professor Jacqui Matthews, Dr Dave Bartley and Dr Thomas Tzelos will provide the latest information on the important parasites of horses, says organiser Louise Radford MRCVS, of Merial Animal Health.

“Delegates will receive an overview of drug resistance in worms, how it develops, and the best way of effectively targeting anthelmintic treatments to reduce the spread of drug resistance,” she says.

“A problem-solving session will use examples of different management regimes and ways to investigate how worm control can be established whilst maintaining best practice. The practical session will enable participants to gain experience in several faecal egg counting techniques, how to troubleshoot if problems arise and how to interpret the results generated.”

The cost for the day is £200 per person and numbers are limited. For information, or to book your place, contact Merial Equine Health on 0870 6000123 or your local territory manager.
