Vetsure has launched a VMD-approved online dispensary platform designed to help UK independent veterinary practices retain medicine revenue, reduce administrative workload and meet growing regulatory demands.
Rolling out across the Vetsure network in the coming weeks, the vetsuremeds.com platform integrates prescribing and purchasing into a single, closed system, enabling practices to offer clients online convenience while keeping a share of medicine income within the practice.
Independent veterinary practices are facing mounting pressure from regulatory change and growing corporate consolidation.
Dr Ashley Gray, managing director of Vetsure, said The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation has resulted in a demand for increased transparency and client choice around prescriptions, an outcome that can only be expected to accelerate the shift of medicine purchases online.
With approximately 30% of small animal practice income derived from medicine sales, Dr Gray said this shift presents a significant commercial challenge for the independent sector.
“As a company founded, owned and run by vets, we were driven to act in the face of a rapidly changing marketplace,” said Dr Gray.
“Our mission has always been to champion independent clinics. The CMA investigation highlights a very real risk to practice income, particularly when such a significant proportion is tied to medicine sales.
“Vetsuremeds.com enables practices to meet evolving regulatory expectations, deliver outstanding client service, and continue to thrive as independent businesses.”
The platform is currently in beta testing and will roll out across the Vetsure network in the coming weeks, with wider market availability planned later in the year.
