NFU president Minette Batters will join Defra Secretary of State Michael Gove at The Future of UK Farming Event later this month.

The two-day conference, on April 27 and 28, will set out and debate the opportunities and consequences for farmers in a post-Brexit environment, while exploring profitable food systems which also enhance the environment and public health.

Also up for discussion will be the growing public demands for local, traceable food and how farmers can adapt to keep up with this market.

The conference will begin with an optional farm walk starting at 11am on Friday, April 27, followed by a light lunch. The programme will then begin at 2pm and run until the end of the day on Saturday, April 28.

It will take place at Hill Barn, Fir Farm, a working 700-acre mixed farm, implementing sustainable practices and supplying local markets wherever possible in the Cotswolds, near Stow on the Wold. The farm is home to 200 head of pedigree polled Hereford cattle, 250 acres of arable and 90 acres of conservation area and woodland.

The conference will also include drinks and dinner at Hill Barn on the Friday evening, with locally produced food being served throughout the event.
