Downland has announced the appointment of a new franchisee in Southeast England, Barkers Animal Health, which will be distributing Downland products to farms from East Dorset across to Kent.

Downland chief executive Sophie Smith said: “Downland actually started in the south of England and the name means “a rolling upland, especially in the chalk areas of south Britain, characterised by a lack of trees and mainly used as pasture.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter, Suzanne, their family and team into Downland and look forward to working with them to develop sales of Downland products in the Southeast of England.”

Barkers Animal Health has recently celebrated its 13th birthday. It is an established supplier to livestock farmers across a large part of the south of England, with a reputation for great advice, support and service. Alongside its existing product range, Barkers’s believes the addition of the Downland range will enable it to expand further into the animal health market and other farm supplies.

Manager director Peter Barker, who has 34 years’ experience within the animal health and agriculture industry, said: “This is a great opportunity for Barkers Animal Health. As our business continues to grow, further developing into new product areas is a key part of our ongoing plans.

“I am proud to say all my team care as much about the business as I care about them. We are reliable and trustworthy and have won a lot of good customers we consider our friends.

“We believe Downland can help us to make a real difference to farmers.”

Founded in 1979, Downland delivers farming excellence across the UK, recognised for its exceptional franchise partners, who provide invaluable advice and solutions for their own local farming community.
