RM Jones recently celebrated its 65th anniversary with a special open day event at its Hereford Farmcentre, which brought together more than 150 farmers and agricultural suppliers to celebrate the special milestone.
The celebration was an opportunity for the local farming community to enjoy a hog roast, take advantage of exclusive promotions and chat to the team. A charity raffle was also held which raised £428.20, with proceeds going to Wales Air Ambulance and The Midlands Air Ambulance.
A third-generation family run business, RM Jones was established in 1960 by Ron Jones, who was a pharmacist in the chemist’ shop in Hay-on-Wye and would often have farmers pulling up asking him to look at their livestock.
In 1981, Rod Jones joined the business and became involved in the agricultural side. Over the years, the business has grown to comprise of four Farmcentres located in Hay-on-Wye, Abergavenny, Hereford and Ledbury, and a community pharmacy based in Hay-on-Wye.
Fast forward to today, and Rod continues to lead the strategic direction of the business, whilst daughter’s Becka and Emily manage the pharmacy, and son Tom looks after the day-to-day running of the Farmcentres.
Reflecting on 65 years in business and the event, Tom Jones, said: “Marking 65 years is a proud milestone for all of us at RM Jones, but we’re not standing still.
“Farming is changing, and we’re committed to evolving with it, offering the same trusted support with fresh ideas and energy for the years ahead. Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate the journey so far.”
RM Jones is a Downland partner and was one of the four founding members.
Sophie Smith, Downland chief executive, said: “It was fantastic to join the RM Jones team for its open day, celebrating the milestone anniversary for the business.
“At Downland, we’re passionate about working closely with independent, family-owned businesses to deliver farming excellence, and RM Jones is a brilliant example of this.”
