The National Sheep Association (NSA) will launch the 2026 NSA Sheep worrying by dogs awareness week today (Monday, March 30).
For the first time NSA has sought feedback from the UK’s dog owning public for its annual survey on the issue.
NSA communications manager Katie James said: “For many years NSA has sought feedback from its members and the wider sheep farming community on the impact suffered by their livestock as a result of dog attacks.
“By reaching out to dog owners NSA hoped to identify strategies for further cooperation between those walking their dogs in the countryside and the farmers whose livestock are regularly put at risk.”
Completed by more than 2000 dog owners, the survey has revealed some important findings on the recognition of what can constitute sheep worrying and the consequences for both owners and their pets if found guilty of sheep worrying offences.
