Business thriving at new pet shop devoted to dogs

A new pet shop devoted to dogs has been heralded as a success just two weeks after opening.

Mad About Paws in Roborough near Plymouth is the brain-child of director Emma Smith who said demand was so high for dog items in its sister store, The Pet Express, that a new shop devoted to a man’s best friend was essential.

The store, located next to Tesco Extra, has everything from sweet treats including dog-friendly doughnuts, cupcakes, waffles and ice creams to savoury pizzas and pretzels as well as ‘alcoholic’ beers and pawsecco drinks for a quiet night in on the sofa.

The store also features a pet spa room where owners can use the facilities to wash their own pet or go off shopping while the ladies in store pamper their pet.

Ms Smith said: “Business has been even better than we expected – we expected a few dogs to pop by after two weeks but we have been absolutely inundated which is great because that’s what it is all about – the dog is the customer.

“We set this up because at The Pet Express we’ve noticed over the last couple of years that the trade for dog products has increased phenomenally, so much so that it’s taken over half the store there.”
