    New CPD opportunity

    NADIS

NADIS has launched a CPD initiative with AMTRA to highlight the threats posed to animal health by anthelmintic resistance.

“Anthelmintic resistance is a significant threat facing the livestock industry, with major implications for animal health and productivity, and SQPs play a vital role in its control,” said Mike Howe, Veterinary Director for NADIS Animal Health Skills.

“In recognition of this Professor Mike Taylor, a founder member of SCOPS and COWS, will write our monthly Parasite Forecasts – which detail the parasite challenge facing cattle and sheep in a practical and seasonal context – especially for SQPs. Each will include a clinical quiz based on the key parasite control information in the forecast.”

SQPS gaining a 70% or more pass in all 12 forecasts receive a Gold Standard Certificate in Parasite Control in Cattle and Sheep and the Responsible Use of Anthelmintics. Those who pass nine will receive a Silver Certificate and those who pass six, a Bronze.

“Achieving a Gold Standard Certificate will demonstrate that the SQP has an extensive knowledge of parasite control in cattle and sheep and its practical implementation through the year for all the parasites that affect cattle and sheep,” said Mike Howe.

“It will also demonstrate that the SQP understands the principles for the sustainable use of anthelmintics that underpin SCOPS and COWS. AMTRA will credit three CPD points for each clinical quiz passed, so passing all 12 will account for 36 CPD points – more than half the annual CPD points requirement for SQPs.

“We hope that those who are awarded certificates will display them in the premises to highlight the expertise of SQPs and the value of their role.”
