    Nicky Jarvis, head of veterinary & care at Redwings Horse Sanctuary

    Nicky Jarvis, head of veterinary & care at Redwings Horse Sanctuary, will be sharing her extensive knowledge and experience at the SPILLERS brand’s forthcoming webinar ‘Spring into action: Effective strategies to help your horse shed pounds’, which takes place on Thursday, February 27, at 7.15pm.

    Ms Jarvis will be joining Vanessa Allen, nutrition advisor for the SPILLERS brand, to share advice and practical tips to help with weight loss, as well as to tackle the million-dollar question of how horse owners can make weight management sustainable.

    “Few people have more practical experience than Nicky Jarvis when it comes to managing the diets of horses and ponies of all shapes and sizes,” said Claire Dyett, marketing manager at Mars Horsecare.

    “This webinar is essential for anyone who is battling with their horse or pony’s body condition. Nicky and Vanessa will be sharing the most effective ways to take control of weight with minimal impact on day-to-day quality of life.”

    Ms Jarvis oversees the health and welfare of over 1,500 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules at Redwings, many of whom arrive overweight or at risk of obesity.

    She has more than 25 years of experience at the charity, together with two Advanced Veterinary Practice Certificates in Equine Medicine and Surgery and regularly lectures to a wide range of audiences.

    “We are extremely lucky that our close working relationship with Redwings enables us to share Nicky’s admirable expertise with you all,” said Ms Dyett. “Her combination of veterinary knowledge with daily hands-on experience with the horses and ponies at Redwings gives her an exceptional practical perspective.

    “Meanwhile our very own Vanessa will be sharing her extensive nutrition know-how, gained during 12 years of visiting professional and leisure yards as a Nutrition Advisor for the SPILLERS brand.”

    The webinar will cover:

    • The importance of monitoring weight and condition – including plenty of practical tips on how and when to use weigh tapes, body condition scoring and the new body condition index;
    • How Redwings manages good doers and helps overweight horses shed the pounds;
    • The biggest challenges in equine weight loss – and how to overcome them; and
    • How to make weight management sustainable for horse owners.

    The webinar will give AMTRA SQPs the opportunity to earn five CPD points for their professional development, and all attendees will be able to test their knowledge with a quiz and receive a certificate upon completion.
