COVID-19 lockdown: Mole Valley Farmers pledges support to farmers

Mole Valley Farmers said its team is on hand, whether it’s over the phone or via video calling, to offer support to farmers during the coronavirus lockdown.

While movement restrictions might make it impossible for the team to get on to farm, staff can still provide advice remotely. Depending on individual farmer preference, that could mean a simple phone chat or setting up a video call via Skype or WhatsApp, for example, the company said.

Scott Carter, technical manager at Mole Valley Farmers, said: “Farmers could then choose to take their advisor on a virtual ‘farm tour’. We can walk the cows virtually with you and assess cow body condition.

“We can also send out forage analysis kits so you can stay on top of silage quality. We can then use this information to make adjustments to cow diets.”

Mr Carter said: “During such a challenging time, we just want to assure farmers that we’re just a phone call away if you need advice or to place an order. We can also carry out a weekly review of your business’s margin over purchased feed – something which is vital in light of milk and feed price fluctuations.”
