Mole Valley Farmers is giving one lucky dairy business the chance to win one of the best young calves in the UK.
The farming cooperative has launched a new competition open to progressive farming enterprises which are dedicated to helping calves thrive.
And the forward-thinking farmers who enter could be taking home a high genetic merit calf from one of the UK’s leading dairy units.
Moella, as she has been named, was bred by the Laird family who own the well-known Blythbridge Holsteins herd.
Based at Blyth Farm in the Scottish Borders, the family has built its reputation over three generations, with breeding decisions focused on developing cows which perform consistently in commercial milking herds while retaining the elite Holstein genetics.
The Lairds use performance records, classification, health traits and day-to-day observations to guide which lines are developed further.
Each generation is bred with the next one in mind, selected for durability, efficiency and consistency as much as show-ring appeal or individual production.
And now one lucky farmer could add Moella to their own milking enterprise.
Colin Laird, who manages the farm with his wife and parents, said: “The calf has 11 generations of excellence behind her and her mother provided 82,000 litres of milk in her first five lactations and has just calved her sixth calf.”
Mole Valley Farmers will be on Stand H143 at UK Dairy Day with Moella and the company’s experts and specialists who will share the insights and expertise helping farmers throughout the agricultural sector.
