SQPs asked to circulate clostridial disease survey to their farming customers

SQPs are being asked to circulate a short online survey to their beef farming customers to enable farmers to share their views on clostridial disease in growing beef cattle.

The survey is being launched by Zoetis, the company behind the clostridial disease vaccine Covexin 10, to help understand farmers’ thoughts on these often fatal diseases and the measures available to help prevent infection, including vaccination.

To support the survey, Zoetis has produced a social media toolkit featuring a series of social media posts for retailers to post on their own social media channels.

The survey will help ascertain farmers’ awareness of the National Office of Animal Health (NOAH) Livestock Vaccination Guideline, which categorises vaccination for clostridial disease as a category one vaccination for beef, one of the highest priority vaccinations.

This means that farmers should routinely vaccinate their beef cattle for clostridial disease, and Covexin 10 from Zoetis offers protection against 10 different strains of clostridia bacteria with a good cost versus benefit ratio.

“Farmers often don’t realise that, besides the well-known risk of blackleg, clostridial disease can cause lethal bloat and bloody scour in beef lots,” saisd Zoetis vet, Patricia van Veen.

“Good stock management and feeding practices, together with vaccination, are considered best practice to help prevent the disease. Our survey will help us create future strategies on how to raise awareness of the prevention and management of clostridial disease in the farming industry.”

It will take approximately three minutes to complete the survey and farmers who participate can enter a prize draw, with 10 lucky winners winning a solar power bank as a prize. The survey can be carried out by clicking here.

To request the clostridial disease survey social media toolkit, please contact your Zoetis account manager or [email protected].
