Phillipa Page is the new president of the Sheep Veterinary Society, having taken over the role from Kim Hamer who becomes senior vice president as Joe Henry retires from the committee. Joining the officials is new junior vice president Jonathan Hobbs.
The Sheep Veterinary Society brings together vets, advisors and flock owners from all over the UK, Europe and the wider world who are interested in the welfare and production of sheep.
The Society is a forum for education and discussion on all matters relating to sheep health and welfare. It also builds strong links with sheep farmers through the National Sheep Association.
Ms Page grew up in a former mill town, Colne in Lancashire and has no previous family links to farming. She qualified as veterinary surgeon from The University of Liverpool, following a previous BSc degree in Animal Production Science at the University of Leeds.
She spent 12 years working in clinical practice, including two years mixed practice in Neath South Wales, followed by eight years in large animal veterinary practice in Gloucestershire. Ms Page currently works as a sheep veterinary consultant at Flock Health, which involves flock health consultancy, work with levy bodies, pharmaceutical companies and education farming fund organisations.
She also works part-time for NADIS as the sheep lead vet on online health planning development, promotion of the parasite forecasts and blowfly alert maps and sheep related online information and content.
