A new weekly online clinic to support equine SQPs with the day-to-day challenges of prescribing is being launched by Diane Gilby an R-SQP and AMTRA Council representative for equine SQPs.
The clinic will provide a forum for SQPs to raise real-world questions, share experiences, and build confidence in making correct and compliant prescription decisions.
Ms Gilby has been at the forefront of sustainable parasite management for many years. As one of the original members CANTER and part of the working party that developed the CANTER Guidelines, she continues her involvement as part of a dedicated group currently working on youngstock and foal-specific guidance.
Ms Gilby, who is scientific director at the ScientifEQ laboratory, said: “There are so many challenges facing SQPs in a retail environment. Incorporating risk assessments into the prescription process – while also explaining the ‘why’ behind a prescription – can be exceptionally difficult.
“It can feel isolating when a customer insists on a wormer, even becoming angry, and you’re unsure what to do. The weekly Zoom clinic will provide a space for SQPs to ask questions that directly address these, and other, issues.”
Stephen Dawson, AMTRA chief executive, said: “I think it’s a great idea, and I hope it goes well. It’s also a useful reminder that the AMTRA Council has a number of SQP representatives, including Diane, that bring their own experience, perspective and ideas.
“Please make use of Diane and your other Council representatives to make sure we hear your thoughts.”
The clinic is designed to be flexible; SQPs do not need to attend every week, only when they feel it would be useful. Those without questions are still welcome to join.
To ensure accessibility, SQPs are invited to select the times that suit them best. Please scan the QR code and indicate your top three preferred options.
