Harper Adams University to host first in-person open day of 2023 this week

A wide range of talks, activities and more are set to be on offer at the first in-person open day of 2023 at Harper Adams University this month.

The day, on Saturday, March 11, offers prospective students considering both undergraduate and postgraduate level study a chance to see campus life and student experiences up close.

Experiences on offer at the March event include an introduction to livestock handling – with lecturers explaining in small group sessions how the animals on the Harper Adams farm are used within courses to boost students’ learning.

In the Veterinary Education Centre, there is the chance to try your hand at suturing at drop-in sessions between 9.30am and 1.30pm.

And for those interested in land and property, there’s the chance to find out more about how graduates work on major infrastructure projects – and to see if they can accurately assess what compensation a landowner may be entitled to if a water provider lays a water pipe in their land.

Carl Griffiths, head of student recruitment at Harper Adams University, said: “It’s always great to be able to open our doors to prospective students, and to show them everything our campus has to offer.

“With award-winning facilities and an on-campus farm which is used across our teaching, many of our current students tell us that seeing Harper Adams first-hand made the difference when they were deciding where to study.

“With the first signs of spring beginning to show, it should be an excellent day to see our campus, meet current students and lecturers, and find out more about the course, or courses, you’re considering studying.”

Throughout the day, there will be regular course talks, activities and more – from an opening address by Harper Adams Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Lee to morning and afternoon accommodation talks and student services stands on hand all day.

There are also dedicated talks for Postgraduate Study, Extended Degrees and Apprenticeships – with each route also having a dedicated hub open throughout the day.

Mr Griffiths added: “We know that our prospective students – whatever they are planning to study – will have lots of questions they want to ask, and our open day brings the course leaders, lecturers and support staff you’ll be studying with together – so if you’re thinking of studying with us, do come along.”
